by Anna, Christian, and Taylor Recently, Sinking Springs Elementary acquired a new principal, Mrs. Heather Dick. Even though Mrs. Dick is a new face to the principal’s office, she is a familiar face to those around Central York School District. A few of us recently had a chance to sit down with Mrs. Dick and find out a few interesting things about her to help us get to know her on a more personal level. Here is what she had to say. The first question we asked was, “Have you had any past jobs?” Mrs. Dick answered, “Yes, I was a middle school math and science teacher for ten years, and assistant principal at Hayshire Elementary. I taught at SSE as a fourth grade teacher, and a math coach.” The second topic was her favorite childhood television show. Our new principal answered with a quick, “Happy Days.” We were astonished and didn't even know what Happy Days was. Happy Days was a 1950s sitcom. To continue the interview we asked, “What school did you go to for elementary school?” She said that she went to a small school in York called St. Joseph School. After that we asked our new principal, “Who was your favorite teacher and why were they your favorite?” She paused for a moment and replied, “Mrs. Altizer because she taught us with creative ways. One time we had a school band and we were even on local news.” Our next question was, “What was your dream job?” She answered with a very excited, “A rockstar!” but she then said, “If I was a rockstar I wouldn't know who my real friends are. Moving on, we requested her answer to was, “What is your favorite grade to teach?” She replied with a quick, “4th grade.” Going on, we inquired, “Do you enjoy being a principal more than being an assistant principal?” She responded, “Yes.” We wanted to find out the answer to the question, “Do you have any pets.” Her face lit up and she exclaimed, “I have a dog. It's a Labrador.” After that, we asked her “Did you play any sports as a kid?” She smiles longingly and replied, “Softball and Basketball.” The last question we asked her was, “As a principal, what is your favorite part of the day?” She answered with a very quick and happy, “Being with all the kids.”
