The track meet is coming up this year and the lunch offered at the track meet will be so amazing! Mrs. Barshinger and Mrs. Beverson, the head cooks at Sinking Springs and North Hills, thought that a homemade lunchable was the best thing to do. The lunchable will have all of the items on the food plate below in the picture.
We all know that the lunch is a lunchable, but what is in the lunchable? It has some whole grain crackers, ham and cheese to put on the crackers, cookies, a yogurt stick, and carrots. There will also be a juice box or milk. At YAP, the students that were chosen get to chat about the new food that is going to be on this month’s breakfast and lunch calendars. When we were guests at the YAP meeting, the council talked about what will be served at the track meet. They collected information to tell their classmates and will share that with their homerooms. The track meet is going to be a good one and so will the lunch!

Anna Scott was awarded an Honorable Mention in a local writing contest. Below is her writing piece that won her this honor. Alexander Hamilton
He was Washington’s right hand man and a person that copious amounts of historical figures counted on. Due to Broadway, Alexander Hamilton is now back in American history. Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755, in the British West Indies. His parents are Rachel Fawcett Lavien and James Hamilton. His parents were never actually married, but on their island they were considered as married. James Hamilton left in 1765 when Alexander was ten years old. Three years later his mother passed away, leaving Alexander and his brother in the custody of aunts and uncles. Knowing life could be better in America, Hamilton wrote an essay that sold very well. It raised so much money that he was then sent to the U.S. When Alexander Hamilton moved to the United States, he started at an academy in New Jersey. A year later, Hamilton was accepted into King’s College, now known as Columbia University. He was only in college for two years. During those years, Hamilton wrote speeches, studied math, and wrote essays about the Continental Congress. It is known by many that Alexander Hamilton started the US Treasury. He also was the first Treasury secretary from 1789 - 1795. This was a big deal because the government had found a way to pay national debt as well as town revenue. Hamilton is commonly associated with money because he started the first bank. The bank was a replica of a bank in England. Going along with Hamilton’s name and money, he can be found on the ten dollar bill. Alexander Hamilton resigned from Treasury in 1795, due to his salary of 3,500 dollars. He went back to law to earn a bigger salary of 12,000 dollars. In January of 1782, Hamilton petitioned to get permission to practice law. In October, he passed the last exam needed to start practicing law. Hamilton was a New York Lawyer along side of Aaron Burr. As for politics, Alexander Hamilton was apart of the Continental Congress. Hamilton was given the pleasure of signing the constitution for New York. Hamilton was apart of the very first cabinet. Due to the fact that Hamilton was exposing cabinet secrets to Major George Beckwith from England, Hamilton wasn’t the favorite anymore. Alexander Hamilton did in fact have a family. He married Elizabeth Schuyler on December 14, 1780. They had eight children together. One of the things that I found to be very interesting was that one of Hamilton’s children died the same way as their father. Philip Hamilton got into a duel with George Eacker about his father. Alexander and Philip both died in duels in almost the same location. Alexander Hamilton died on July 12, 1804 in Weehawken, New Jersey. Hamilton got into a duel with Aaron Burr a fellow lawyer. Hamilton was an amazing lawyer, but he also was an amazing author. Hamilton wrote 51 out of the 85 Federalist Papers. The fellow authors were John Jay, who wrote 5 essays and James Madison, who wrote 29 essays. Alexander Hamilton also started The New York Post. he was offered many more writing jobs but turned most of them down. Hamilton was celebrated more when he was living but as his career slowed down and he died, he kind of faded away. I chose Alexander Hamilton because I like to learn about history. I also really like the music from the musical, Hamilton. The musical isn't a traditional slow music Broadway show. It's more of a up beat, hip hop, rap musical. It made me very interested in learning more about Alexander Hamilton. by Anna, Christian, and Taylor Recently, Sinking Springs Elementary acquired a new principal, Mrs. Heather Dick. Even though Mrs. Dick is a new face to the principal’s office, she is a familiar face to those around Central York School District. A few of us recently had a chance to sit down with Mrs. Dick and find out a few interesting things about her to help us get to know her on a more personal level. Here is what she had to say. The first question we asked was, “Have you had any past jobs?” Mrs. Dick answered, “Yes, I was a middle school math and science teacher for ten years, and assistant principal at Hayshire Elementary. I taught at SSE as a fourth grade teacher, and a math coach.” The second topic was her favorite childhood television show. Our new principal answered with a quick, “Happy Days.” We were astonished and didn't even know what Happy Days was. Happy Days was a 1950s sitcom. To continue the interview we asked, “What school did you go to for elementary school?” She said that she went to a small school in York called St. Joseph School. After that we asked our new principal, “Who was your favorite teacher and why were they your favorite?” She paused for a moment and replied, “Mrs. Altizer because she taught us with creative ways. One time we had a school band and we were even on local news.” Our next question was, “What was your dream job?” She answered with a very excited, “A rockstar!” but she then said, “If I was a rockstar I wouldn't know who my real friends are. Moving on, we requested her answer to was, “What is your favorite grade to teach?” She replied with a quick, “4th grade.” Going on, we inquired, “Do you enjoy being a principal more than being an assistant principal?” She responded, “Yes.” We wanted to find out the answer to the question, “Do you have any pets.” Her face lit up and she exclaimed, “I have a dog. It's a Labrador.” After that, we asked her “Did you play any sports as a kid?” She smiles longingly and replied, “Softball and Basketball.” The last question we asked her was, “As a principal, what is your favorite part of the day?” She answered with a very quick and happy, “Being with all the kids.” |
